Money for college if mom has cancer?
February 26th, 2012
Im a senior in high school and already applied and got accepted into 4 colleges (still haven’t picked one). On Christmas eve my mom was diagnosed with Breast cancer. Could I get some extra money for college because of this? My mom was the one that actually asked if this was possible.
If the medical bills or loss of work related to it actually affect your family’s finances significantly and won’t be fully reflected in 2011 taxes, then you when you actually get your need-based financial aid award, you can appeal it and show them documentation of the extra expenses/loss of income.
If it hasn’t/won’t affect your family’s income significantly, then probably not.
NO – no such a thing.
Sorry about your mom’s condition – but you need to consider that if every kid whose parent had a condition or illness, or every kid that had some kind of condition, was able to get free money for college, then any said program would be bankrupt.
Maybe scholarships..
