Am i eligible for financial aid for college?

February 22nd, 2012

I had my son when I was a freshman in high school.
He’s been diagnosed with Luekemia this year and i’m currently unable to get a job because of his condition.
I’m now a senior in High School and i’m planning on going to a community college for two years and get transferred over to Penn State for the other two years.

Yes I am pretty sure you are eligible.

Because you have a child, you will be considered independent for FAFSA

I would recommend you go online at FAFSA & fill it out early in January (unless you had a job & plan to file taxes, then file taxes and as soon as done fill out FAFSA)

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

then, when you get that done, go ahead & contact the Community College & find out all the deadlines, etc to get everything in place so that you can be ready to go for Fall 2012 semester

If you had planned ahead, you could have filled out FAFSA for 2011-2012 academic year, get everything in place for the school & begin classes this summer.

I am sorry about your son having luekemia… I am glad you are completing High School & plan to get a good college education

Just curious, but why should you receive special consideration? That would be discriminatory against all students that did the right thing.

depends on your income and since you have a child you could get more
