Student loan garnishment question?
February 22nd, 2012
i have student loans that are about to go to garnishment, i am a stay at home mom if this is filed can they put the garnishment on my husbands pay check? by what i understand for student loans they cant..does anyone know for sure.
No, they cannot garnish your husband’s paycheck. They can take your tax return and ruin your personal credit (not your husbands). You cannot get rid of a student loan by going bankrupt so you probably need to work out a payment schedule with them.
Give them references and prevent the garnishment. For heavens sake, your credit will be ruined for the rest of your life unless you pay it off. Student loans will NEVER go away. They will garnish your social security checks even. They need references because you have already proven to be untrustworthy and they need a way to find you if you change your address/phone number, etc. They won’t call your references if you are paying.
