Will I still receive financial aid?

February 22nd, 2012

I am currently a college freshman. I am on financial aid warning for being on academic probation due to my academic performance last trimester. I have doubts of being able to get at least a 2.0 GPA at the end of this trimester, resulting in academic suspension. I am thinking of not enrolling for next term and in the fall I want to enroll into a different college. Will I receive financial aid if I can write an appeal? Also, for financial aid and GPA reasons, would it be a better option to stay in the class and fail, or drop the class?

Why are you failing your classes? You need to figure that out and what you plan on doing to fix it. You can certainly write an appeal but it’s up to your school to decide if your appeal is strong enough to warrant continuing your financial aid. It’s always better to drop a class you are failing than to actually fail…as long as you stay enrolled in at least 12 credit hours since your aid is based on full time enrollment. The best option of course is to not fail.

You need to call your school’s financial aid office on Tuesday and talk to someone.

By trimester don’t you mean semester? You should probably contact FAFSA but if you believe that you can get an appeal you can shoot for that.
