The library of Pennsylvania University was first founded in 1750, whose initial collection of books coming from cartographer Lewis Evans’s donation. 20 years later, the then dean of the William Smith traveled to Britain to raise funds to expand the volume of books. 250 years later, the school today already has 15 libraries of different sizes, with collection of more than 5.7 million books, while have more than 40,000 kinds of subscription journals and more than 400 administrators and a budget of 480 million U.S. dollars.

University of Pennsylvania : Brief Introduction

University of Pennsylvania is one coeducational and private university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is also member of the Ivy League. It is founded in 1740 by Benjamin Franklin who was a well-known scientist and politician in the United States, one of those who drafted the Declaration of Independence, and was also the inventor of the lightning rod, Franklin stove and dual-use distance glasses, etc. At that time it was a charity party school.
In 1755, the school changed its name to Philadelphia College and Research Institute.In 1765, John • Morgan , one of the first graduates of the school, created the first medical school in North America, making the school a real university. But not until 1779, Pennsylvania passed legislation of the government reorganization of the school, officially renamed it the University of Pennsylvania. In 1791, the school name was reduced to the University of Pennsylvania.
